I must admit, I am not into bling and dressing up much. You normally see me in jeans, t’s and Keen shoes. So what makes me know anything about how to dress for your elopement wedding? Well, after hosting over 1000 elopements in our years owning Star of Texas Bed & Breakfast, I have seen just about everything.
We have had brides with, Traditional full wedding dress with a 4′ train flowing behind, a lovely Green velvet Celtic dress, a Camo wedding dress( almost lost her in the woods), Steam Punk with all the guest dressing the part (now that was fun). Blue jeans and boots to cute Tea length heavy lace dresses.
So, what is best for you? Well, I always tell my Brides’ wear what ever makes you happy and makes you feel beautiful. I will work with what ever you choose.
So here are just a few tips for you to consider when planning what to wear.
What month is the wedding going to take place and is it indoors or out? Over and over we have brides that got a great deal on a dress that is beautiful, but then decided they want to elope in February. Not a problem, right? Well, if it is a dress with no sleeves and the weather dips down, your blue arms and goose bumps don’t look real pretty in your pictures. So, get the dress, but plan to bring a shawl or cute denim jack to throw on at least between pictures.
If you are going to be outdoors for a garden wedding, then the long dress dragging in the leaves and dirt may not be the best choice, so think about your location and what outfit might work best for the location.
Ok, now this one is a big one. The shoes. If you are getting married on a hill side in the Texas hill country, then spike heels are really not a good idea. But, you want to look tall, understand that, so do wedges or cute boots with the square heels. Or, bring a pair of flip flops and change into them while walking around to do photos.
What about the hair do? Again, this is your preference, but if you are going to be outdoors, which 99% of our brides are, then the long flowing hair may be an issue with the wind blowing. It does make for beautiful side shots, but can drive you crazy during the actual ceremony.
So, those are just some things to think about when planning your elopement or Intimate wedding. I love to visit with each of my brides to make their day the best it can be. I offer to help them dress if needed and we also have a lovely lady that will come and do your hair and makeup in your cottage.
